Agness Chindimba - Co-Founder, Executive Director

With over 15 years of experience working with deaf children and young women with disabilities, Agness Chindimba is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to advocating for equitable rights, access, and opportunities for women and girls living with disabilities. Among her many achievements, Agness was the Coordinator of the team that translated the national constitution into Sign Language in 2018.  Agness is a Mandela Washington Fellow (2016), on the Board of various nonprofits working on disability rights and access in Zimbabwe, and is a nominee of the AMH100 Great Zimbabweans in Civic Leadership in 2017.  Agness holds BA with Honors in English and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Zimbabwe, and is currently finishing her Masters in Educational Management, Leadership and Development from Africa University. Agness has attended course work in human rights, leadership, and feminism, and continuing research interests include inclusive education, Feminism and disability, sexual reproductive health and rights, and access to information. Agness has not stopped dancing since she was born, and all those who meet her eventually join her in joyous movement.

 

Onai Hara - Project Manager

Onai Hara is a qualified social worker who is passionate about working with women and girls with disabilities to ensure that they are provided equal opportunities and spaces to raise their voices, experiences, solutions, and dreams. Onai is also a Sign language interpreter, working under Deaf Women Included, to ensure equitable provision of services for deaf women and girls who can not access mainstream services and basic rights due to lack of interpreters. She has also worked as a Program Assistant with the Zimbabwe Deaf Media Trust, and as an Atachee to the Mutare City Council Department of Housing and Community Services. As a fierce advocate of disability rights, she is currently pursuing an MA in Disability Studies from the University of Leeds. Her research concentrations include maternal healthcare for women with disabilities, Sign language and Deaf Culture, as well as, ethical social work practice with persons with disabilities. Onai will return with her degree to continue to advance the rights of persons living with disabilities in Zimbabwe with the bold network of activists in Zimbabwe and beyond. She also has a Post Graduate Degree in Media Studies from Rhodes University, and a BA in Social Work with Honors from the University of Zimbabwe. Onai's boundless spirit is contains a wise soul, though young, she is a big sister to all she touches.

Lovemore Chidemo - Finance Consultant

Lovemore Chidemo is the Finance Consultant of DWI. In addition to Lovemore's fiscal responsibilities with DWI, he is actively involved in program design, program management, and creating dynamic videos and media to advocate for disability rights and inclusion.  Lovemore is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Deaf Media Trust providing comprehensive and accurate information to the Deaf community in Sign language, and promoting Deaf culture and Sign language to demystfy deafness in Zimbabwe and promote understanding and unity country wide.  Lovemore is a qualified finance consultant with years of progressive experience on corporate finance, internal audits, and managements of nonprofit funding and grant systems, and was a Corporate Financial Analyst for Regatta Financial Advisory Services for over 10 years. He is currently completing a Masters of Philosophy and Disability Rights in Africa from the University of Pretoria, and has a Masters of Science in Finance & Investment from the National University of Science and Technology, as well as, a Bachelors of Accountancy from the University of Zimbabwe.  Lovemore is a lover of life and will have you belly laughing in 5 seconds flat.

 

Beatrice Mugandani - Project Coordinator

As a development practitioner with a great commitment to human rights, Beatrice Mugandani advocates for the rights of minority and vulnerable groups such as people living with disabilities, women, children and youth. She has harnessed a wide range of skills including in research, monitoring and evaluation, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Before DWI, she worked for numerous  organisations such as Plan International, Musasa, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Developmental Studies from Midlands State University, a BA with Honors in Development Studies, a certificate in Sign Language, and is currently obtaining an Executive Certificate in Programme and Project Monitoring. Beatrice is a great team player, and makes a mean muriwo unedovi if you're lucky!
